Coasts
Nearly 40% of the world’s population lives near a coastline. In addition to being our seasonal playgrounds, their significance for our communities includes their designation as areas of concern as we face a warming climate and rising seas.
Additionally, coastal areas are host to particularly sensitive ecosystems that require greater foresight and protection in any development or preservation activity.
Sustainably realizing projects in coastal systems requires a unique array of expertise. We are able to apply our experience in geomorphology and hydraulics to analyze coastal processes, identifying short and long-term impacts for the local environment and communities, while also avoiding potential obstacles to project delivery.
Although development in coastal property is heavily regulated in many countries, we can help our clients meet and exceed standards across multiple categories related to stabilization and protection of the physical shoreline, the protection and support of the surrounding natural ecosystems and processes, and the future impact on the site due to both facility operation and natural phenomenon.
As with all our engineering services, we offer cutting edge modeling tools to provide options among potential designs and deliver the most value-added solution.
Inland Waterways
In addition to their application for coastal projects, our expertise in hydrologics, hydrology and geomorphology provide our clients with solutions for modeling the dynamics of lakes, rivers and other inland waterways.
Understanding the properties and flows of inland waterways can be a make-or-break aspect for many projects. There is no margin of error for environment or habitat destruction, and the influence these have on local and downstream communities.
We can work across public and private sectors, coordinating research and regulatory activities during the design stage to ensure that project or program impact on local waterways is minimal. We can also analyze the impact of operational activities on aquatic environments, following these impacts to their source and working with our clients to devise remediation activities.
